A University-Industry Center of Competence for the Research in the field of Photovoltaics - Action 1.1.1 POR Veneto

The University of Padua has been dealing with renewable energy and solar power issues sine many years. In this context we promoted this initiative for the creation of a Center of competence of R & D and technology transfer in Photovoltaics.

The Center of Competence aims to be capable of supporting companies working in the Photovoltaic, acting as an attractor and a multiplier of initiatives aimed at R & D of new technologies, materials, devices, methods of manufacture and installation with the prospective of creating a Veneto Photovoltaic Center of excellence.

Over thirty researchers have been involved in its implementation, from five different departments: Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Chemistry and Physics.

Why research in Photovoltaics?

The main obstacle to the widespread adoption of photovoltaic technology are its costs. The most efficient thin-film Photovoltaics panel has been built by General Electric (USA).

The research to increase the efficiency and reduce the cost of production is the key to make the Photovoltaic competitive as an energy source (in perspective of no incentives, or very few).
